ABOUT

My name is Lisa Chong. I am a multilingual Albertan residing on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 people in what is now Calgary. My background is in community planning, (redevelopment) public engagement, not-for-profit and government relations

I graduated from the Urban Studies program at the University of Calgary. I worked in administrative roles in finance and hospitality, during and post-graduation. I returned to the classroom to pursue my dreams and earned a Master of City & Community Planning. I also completed IAP2 certification in public participation and other professional training.

From 2013-2021, I helped steer one of the most robust planning and development committees in Calgary in the vibrant, mixed demographic neighbourhood of Hillhurst Sunnyside. This was during its most transformative years of Transit Oriented Development and the implementation of Calgary's Municipal Development Plan. As a neutral facilitator, I listened and I helped the community advocate for positive outcomes, public amenities, connected neighbours, supported affordable housing partners, and built strong relationships with the City of Calgary.

Eyes on the Future:
I am interested in listening, collaborating and growing relationships with government, citizens and industry. I have a personal interest in affordable and multi-generational housing and healthy, vibrant cities.

KGCA Blog | September 12, 2019

"Just over 3 years ago, with few volunteers and a committee in need of revival, the community’s Development & Planning Committee (DPC) fell. Since this time, it has become stronger than ever and achieved some notable success. To get a closer look into the DPC, we sat down with Carolyn Johnson, President of the Killarney Glengarry Community Association (KGCA), Cale Runions, Outgoing Director of Development KGCA and Evan Woolley, Ward 8 City of Calgary Councillor to learn more."

Jane’s Walks are free, citizen-led walking tours put together to honour author and urban activist, Jane Jacobs. These walks are intended to encourage people to explore and celebrate their cities and communities."

WHITE: COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION PLANNING COMMITTEES A HIDDEN GEM?

Calgary Herald | March 27, 2018

"Hmmm…now I am [wondering] how many other communities have a paid urban planning position, so I thought I’d check in with Lisa Chong, Hillhurst/Sunnyside’s urban planning co-ordinator since 2013 to learn more about what she and the volunteer planning committee do."
